Fresh Water

This stream is fed from the snow melting off the mountain peaks above. The water here is so fresh (and cold) that it would be amongst the freshest in the world.

Mountain Peak

This piece of rock does not seem significant at first glace. But, when you consider it is at 7000 feet, and is in the middle of a mountain range in the South Island of New Zealand, it is more than likely that there has only ever been less than half a dozen people who have ever stepped foot on it. Magnificent!

Sleeping Giants

These mountains are south of the Wairau River Valley in the South Island. It is hard to put the size of these mountains into perspective in this photo. To give you an idea, it is about 6000 feet to the valley floor from where I took this photo. The water area of the river at the bottom is about 50 feet wide.

Marlborough Sunrise

The first rays of a late Autumn (Fall) sun strike the mountains to the south of Blenheim, South Island.

Rocks on Ice?

I found this rock at the top of the Hellfire Stream near Mount Rainbow in the South Island of New Zealand.

Hay Bales

It is hard to describe what I like about this photo of central South Island New Zealand. Can you explain it?

Mountain Top

One small trig on top of one large mountain, amongst many large mountains in the South Island of New Zealand.

Mountain River

This dry river bed in the Southern Alps of New Zealand is at about 5000 feet above sea level. The only water that feeds it is from the melting snow above.
